Dr Theo Birch
Specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon practising across Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast, and providing clinical governance for Aesthetic Haus.
A surgical foundation, broadened by design.
Theo is fully qualified as a Specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Queensland, holding a Bachelor of Science (Biomedical), a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, before progressing through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons accredited training program in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Following his Fellowship, Theo undertook further post-fellowship training both locally and abroad, deliberately broadening his exposure across facial aesthetics, breast surgery, body contouring, skin cancer surgery and hand surgery. That breadth informs the considered, multi-disciplinary perspective he brings to consultations today.
Theo's surgical practice spans the full breadth of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Particular interests include:
- Facial aesthetic surgery. Considered, anatomy-led approaches to the ageing face, with planning anchored to long-term facial harmony.
- Breast surgery. Aesthetic and reconstructive breast procedures, planned individually after thorough in-person assessment.
- Body contouring. Post-weight-loss and post-pregnancy body surgery, with attention to scar placement and recovery planning.
- Skin cancer surgery. Excision and reconstruction of skin lesions, including more complex facial reconstruction.
- Hand surgery. Elective and trauma hand surgery as a select member of the Australian Hand Surgery Society.
At Aesthetic Haus, the aesthetic division of Plastic Surgery Queensland, Dr Birch provides clinical governance for the non-surgical service. In practice that means oversight of treatment protocols, the standards Aesthetic Nurses practise to, and the framework around assessment and patient safety.
Where a treatment plan involves a prescription medicine, a separate doctor consultation is arranged so the prescription can be issued in line with TGA requirements. Where a patient's goals may be better served by a surgical opinion, Theo provides a direct referral pathway within the practice. All recommendations are made in the context of an in-clinic consultation.
"The aim is refinement that looks like the patient on their best day."

Theo is hardworking, honest and considered, and is firm that the patient's interest comes before all else. His preference is for thorough assessment, candid advice and a plan that is genuinely appropriate rather than maximal. He is comfortable advising against a procedure when the timing, the goal or the option is not right.
Decisions are framed around long-term aesthetic thinking. The aim is refinement that looks like the patient on their best day, supported by an evidence-based plan the patient understands and is comfortable with.
Theo is an active member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), and a select member of the Australian Hand Surgery Society. He contributes regularly to national and international meetings within the specialty, and maintains continuing professional development across both surgical and non-surgical aesthetic medicine.
Theo consults across Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast. Appointments are by referral or direct booking through Plastic Surgery Queensland.
