Lip Volume Loss

Hydration, definition, balance.

Lips change shape with age, they lose volume, definition and hydration, and the surrounding skin develops fine vertical lines. Our work here is conservative: definition over size.

Lip Volume Loss
About the concern

Loss of the vermilion border, thinning of the lip body and a downturned resting expression are common age-related changes. So is the development of fine vertical lines above the upper lip.

We don't subscribe to a single 'lip look'. Treatment is always proportionate to the rest of your face and to your own anatomy, the aim is lips that look like better-rested versions of yours, not lips borrowed from somewhere else.

Where the surrounding skin is the real driver of the concern, we'll treat the skin rather than reaching for a volume replacement treatment.

Areas of concern

Where this typically shows up.

The areas below are commonly assessed in consultation. Whether any are treated , and how, is decided on an individual basis.

01

Vermilion Border

The defining edge of the lip softens over time. Re-establishing the border can sharpen the lip without changing its size.

02

Lip Body

Thinning through the body of the lip is addressed in measured amounts only where it suits the proportions of the face.

03

Cupid's Bow & Philtral Columns

The architecture of the upper lip is preserved as a priority. Subtle re-definition here often has more impact than added volume.

04

Oral Commissures

Downturned corners contribute to a tired or unhappy resting expression. A combination of approaches is often more effective than a volume replacement treatment alone.

05

Perioral Lines

Fine vertical lines above the upper lip are usually addressed through skin-quality treatments rather than volume.

Your consultation

Unhurried. Plastic Surgeon-led. No pressure to proceed.

We start by understanding what you'd like your lips to do, feel hydrated, read more defined, sit more balanced, rather than what you'd like them to look like in a photo.

Our Aesthetic Nurse reviews the resting and animated position of the lip, the surrounding skin, the perioral muscles and the relationship of the lip to the rest of the face. Lip work that ignores the surrounding face rarely ages well.

If a plan is offered, we explain the technique, the conservative amounts involved, the known risks (including vascular risk in this area), the settling period and longevity. Cost is discussed openly once the plan is defined.

There's no pressure to proceed on the day. Lip work is often best built up gradually rather than addressed in a single session.
